Abstract

A case of congenital syphilis which associated with hemolytic anemia was reported
and a review of the literature on hematologic aspect o: congenital syphilis was done.
The patient was admitted at the age of 1 month and initially thought to have some
blood discrasias.
Chief clinical and laboratory findings were severe anemia with hepatosplenomegaly,
reticulocytosis(44%) and increased metarubricyte on the peripheral blood smear, and
marked erythroid hyperplasia of the bone marrow.
The diagnosis was established by the characteristic bone changes on the X-ray and
positive STS in broth the infant and his Parents.
The treatment was performed by total 120 cc of whole blood transfusion and injection
of penicillin, results were excellent
